Have you ever wondered how long bicycles have been around? A pretty long time! A baron in Germany named Karl von Drais created the first steerable, two-wheeled contraption in 1817.
Known sometimes as the “velocipede,” “hobby-horse,” and “running machine,” this early invention made him widely considered as the father of the bicycle.
Although bicycles are not that complicated, if you had to draw one from memory, it might become trickier than you think.
Remembering what connects to what, and where, can become difficult if you don’t have one in front of you. Or a least a photo of a real bike.
This tutorial walks a beginner artist through the drawing of a simple bicycle, one with sturdy wheels, fenders and handlebars.
It could certainly be customized with racing stripes and bright colors, but for those that would just like to learn how to draw a bike, it’s ready to go.
Step 1
Draw two triangle without making their larger line.
Step -2
Then draw two circles to form the tires. Don’t draw them too much apart from one another. You should not be able to draw another tire between these two.
If you can, then you should draw your wheels closer.
Step -3
Add three more circles. One for the chain wheel and two mores for the front and rear hubs. Make sure that the chain wheel is slightly touching the rear tire
Step -4
It’s now time to sketch the tubes of your bicycle. Just follow carefully the illustration above to make sure that the position and proportion of your tubes are accurate!
Step -5
Finally, add the basic shapes for the saddle, the handlebars and the pedal.
Step -6
Now it’s time to refine your drawing! Work on the tires and make sure the wheels are perfectly
round. Then, draw some lines to create the spokes. Don’t draw too many of them, otherwise your drawing will be saturated with useless lines.
Step -7
Now work on the busket of your bicycle. Make sure that the saddle is perfectly shaped and that all tubes are now joined into a solid and unique element.
